OIL CLEANSER

First step of double cleansing - the oil cleanser will remove oil-based impurities such as excess sebum, make-up, SPF and external pollutants. The oil cleanser is in a much better place to do this as oil attracts oil, and these impurities will roll off your face without stripping your skin of its natural oils.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is an oil cleanser?

Oil cleansers are oil-based face washes that help to remove makeup, SPF, dirt, and any other oil impurities on the skin. Because oils are attracted to other oils, these cleansers help to dissolve and lift away impurities without stripping skin of its natural oil content. The formula emulsifies on contact with water, creating a light lather that cleanses the skin while leaving it feeling nourished and balanced.

Why should we double cleanse?

The idea behind double-cleansing is that the first (oil-based) cleanser you use helps to remove makeup, SPF, and other impurities on the skin, while the second (water-based) cleanser concentrates on removing any water-based impurities and other dirt that remains on your skin. Double-cleansing helps to clean your skin thoroughly and ensures the products you apply in the rest of your routine can be better absorbed by your skin. It is especially important if you wear heavy or waterproof makeup or a physical/mineral-based suncream.

How do I double cleanse?

First, ensure your skin is dry. Dispense 2-3 pumps of your cleansing oil (or a scoop of cleansing balm) into the palms of your hands. Gently massage the oil into your face for 1-2 minutes (feel free to do it for longer if your skin is particularly congested). Add lukewarm water to emulsify, and then rinse thoroughly. Next, take your water-based cleanser and dispense a small amount into your hands. Gently massage it into damp skin, using a circular motion. Rinse thoroughly with lukewarm water. Allow skin to dry and then proceed with the rest of your skincare routine.

Should you double cleanse twice a day?

You can double-cleanse twice a day, but depending on your skin type and lifestyle it may not be necessary. If your skin starts to show signs of dryness or irritation, we recommend you reduce how frequently you double-cleanse. If double-cleansing only once a day, we recommend you do so in the evening in order to remove makeup, SPF, and any impurities that may have accumulated on your skin during the day.
